Malawi leader has described the founding father of the nation, Ngwazi Hastings Kamuzu Banda as a great visionary leader who had a long-term plans for Malawi, citing construction of Kamuzu Dam 1 in 1966 as such one vision that Kamuzu set for Malawi.

Chakwera made the remarks on Tuesday, 8th August, 2023 at Kalonga Community Day Secondary School in Lilongwe Nsinja South constituency during a developmental rally he addressed soon after commissioning the rehabilitated Kamuzu Dam 1 in Malingunde.

He said all Malawians need to hold hands in fulfilling the country’s vision and plans towards 2063 agenda, adding that if Kamuzu did not have great vision for the country, it could not be possible for today to be talking of a water reservoir facility like the Kamuzu Dam.

Chakwera then told the gathering that his administration will continue initiating developmental projects for Malawians, saying all Malawians should take responsibility and hold accountable in developing the country.

However, President Chakwera admitted that there are challenges that the country is facing, but was quick to assure Malawians that other things will be rectified as soon as possible.

“Not all is well, but we are working tirelessly to ensure that this year farmers access the inputs under AIP in time” Said the President.

In his remarks, the Secretary General for the ruling Malawi Congress Party, Eisenhower Mkaka thanked the President for his vision to have Kamuzu Dam 1 rehabilitation work completed in time regardless of the project facing challenges due to Covid-19 pandemic.

During the rally, Parliamentarian for the area Francis Belekanyama requested government to consider opening ADMARC depots and fast-track the distribution of inputs under the Affordable Inputs Program for people of his area to benefit.
