Chakwera challenges Churches in the country to help in national development agenda

Malawi President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has urged the church community in the country to support his Government agenda of making Malawi a safe haven for living.

Speaking at Civo Stadium during a thanksgiving Sunday by the CCAP Nkhoma Synod , Chakwera said, the Church remains a key partner in socioeconomic development owing to its better understanding of the country’s development trajectory dating back to over a century ago when the country was still under colonial rule.

Chakwera then called upon the church to continue supporting his leadership through solution-seeking advice, prayer and delivery of social services such as healthcare, food security and education among others.

The Malawi leader pledged to continue offering opportunities to religious institutions and their members to fully participate in nation building through various social and economic activities.

Speaking earlier, CCAP Nkhoma Synod Moderator Rev Phillip Kambulire assured the President of continued collaboration between the church and the current political administration on all matters that affect Malawians.

He said the church will continue engaging government on key issues that include Affordable Input Programme, social protection programs, economic empowerment initiatives and climate change management.
