President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera held a successful meeting with a group of South Africans on the sidelines of BRICS summit in Johannesberg, South Africa.

Writing on his Facebook page, President Chakwera indicated that during the meeting, the investors from different sectors have expressed keen interest to invest in Malawi.

He writes: “Earlier today, I met a group of South African investors to set up [businesses] in Malawi.”

According to the write up, some of the investors include a consortium called Hosken Consolidated Investment Limited (HCI) which specialises in transport, mining, broadcasting and hospitality among others. Among other priority areas, the company intends to invest in the tourism and gaming business in the Likoma Activity Centre.

President Chakwera also indicated that a company called Blue Energy Africa, a leading Pan African developer of clean energy infracture intends to invest 200 megawatts of power generation in Malawi.

President Chakwera is in South Africa attending the 13th BRICS summit which has started today and will end on Thursday August 24th.
