Chakwera hails BRICS Summit, describing it an eye opener

Malawi leader President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has described his attendance to two international Summits as advantageous and a milestone to the country’s trajectory towards achieving Malawi’s goals as espoused in the Malawi2063.

The Malawi leader said this upon his arrival at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) from South Africa where he attended the 15th BRICS meetings.

Prior to his travel to the RSA, Chakwera was in Luanda in Angola where he attended the 43rd Southern African Development Community (SADC) Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government.

President Chakwera touched down at the airport at exactly 16:13 said the SADC indaba accorded Malawi an opportunity to discuss with the rest of the members issues surrounding human capital development, financial capital flows as well as industrialization.

Coincidentally, the three topical issues also underpin Malawi Vision2063, which is the country’s second long-term national development overarching vision for the country.

Chakwera also described the BBRICS meeting in South Africa as “an eye-opener” as it tackled critical international issues such as reforming the global financial institutions, deepening green economy as well as other challenges that continue to “destroy our earth.”

President Chakwera said the BRICS Summit provided valuable insights for Malawi concerning global matters during the transition to sustain humanity.

The president, has also described his bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, on the sidelines of the BRICS meeting, as fruitful and favourable to Malawi’s development agenda.

The President disclosed that the China leader took advantage of the meeting to invite him and his entourage to China, for a second time.
