Malawi President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has held Bilateral talks with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

This is the first time the Malawi Government meets Scholz.

“Malawi’s long-time bilateral partner, Federal Republic of Germany, has today restated commitment to continue supporting the pursuit of inclusive socioeconomic transformation for our people,” said Chakwera soon after the meeting.

Chakwera said His Excellency Chancellor Olaf Scholz has illustrated that the financial and technical support they have been providing since the 60s is now aligned to the newly-configured national aspiration, the Malawi 2063.

“We look forward to more meaningful bilateral and technical cooperation in education, health and nutrition, social protection, rural-based private sector development, governance and public financial management,” said the German Chancellor.

President Chakwera has since expressed gratitude to the German government for the timely humanitarian aid in response to Cyclone Freddy.

“I have asked his government and people of Germany to be part of our Reconstruction Plan which is valued at US$680 million,” said Chakwera.
