Malawi President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has already started serious business just a day after his arrival in New York, USA for the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA).
The president has already engaged United Nations Women Generation Equality to share notes on women empowerment and gender.
“Following a safe trip and arrival in New York, we have immediately gone down to official business with a busy schedule on our first day. First, on the day’s plan, will be the United Nations Women Gender Equality Midpoint Event, where we will showcase Malawi’s foothold on women empowerment evidenced by meritorious appointments of many women leaders across the whole government structure, social protection programs, equal opportunities for jobs, businesses and education and general life development,” reads President Chakwera’s Facebook post.
Chakwera is expected to meet with Prime Minister of Iceland, Katrín Jakobsdóttir, to explore potential synergies the two economies can build across sectors such as agro-processing and financial services, among others.
Later in the day, the President is expected to have an interface with Mr. Gilbert F. Houngbo, Director General of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) to share experiences on how Malawi can best provide decent jobs and social security.
“Related to the same, we will attend the Global Accelerator on Jobs and Social Protection for Just Transitions, a platform at which we will draw lessons on how to best invest in creating relevant jobs in green, digital and care economies, ” he says.
