President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has directed that the departed former Minister Peter Fatchi be put to rest with full military honours.
This has been announced by Malawi Congress Party Secretary General and Lilongwe Mpenu lagislature Eisenhower Mkaka. Mkaka said government has decided to honour Fatchi with military hounors as one way of government’s continued commitment to honour people who have been of great service to this country.
Agreeing with Mkaka on the need to accord Fatchi with military honours was the Member of Parliament for Mwanza West Nicholas Dausi. Dausi said it is befitting that Fatchi military send-off for his distinguished service to this country.
Fatchi was one of the founding member of the United Democratic Front (UDF).
During his time,Fatchi served as the Minister of Justice and Attorney General among other Cabinet portifolios.
This is not the first time that the Chakwera Administration has accorded military honours to people who served in the previous regimes. Others who have received similar honours in recent times include Joseph Kubwalo,a Cabinet colleague of Fatchi during Muluzi’s Administration.
