Chakwera powers northern region with potable water

Things that seemed impossible in the previous Administrations are becoming possible in this administration all because of President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera’s transformative leadership.

Barely weeks after President Chakwera commissioned the landmark Kamuzu Dam Water Project in Malingunde, Lilongwe, the Malawi leader Thursday morning officially commissioned the Nkhata-Bay Water Supply and Sanitstion Facilities project.

Funded by the African Development Bank, OPEC Fund for International Development and the Malawi government to the tune of US$30.55 million, the project is considered as a catalyst for development not only for Nkhata-Bay town but the entire nothern region and it is touted to have the potential for enhancing crossborder development as it will cater for Mtwara Development Corridor in Karonga which boders Malawi and Karonga up north.

The project is earmarked to supply water to 105,000 people.

The flagship project feeds well into the Sustainable Development Goals number 6 of the United Nations of providing clean and potable water to all by 2030 which speaks well with the Malawi 2063 development blue print of making sure that every Malawian has clean and safe water by 2063.
