Malawi leader President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, on Monday evening presided over the official handover of the US $150 000 USD excavator, presented by the Chinese Group, Sany at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.
This follows a pledge that was made by Sany officials, when His Excellency toured the group’s facilities in Changsha, Hunan Province, during his visit to The People’s Republic of China in June this year, in a bid to secure among many investments, resources that will fast track Malawi’s 2063 goal for industrialisation.
In his iconic and maiden visit to China, where he was invited as Guest of Honor of the Chinese Government, His Excellency also opened the first Malawian Consulate in the City of Changsha, which is expected to open up avenues and facilitate trade and investment as demonstrated.
The gesture serves as a glimpse into the scope of diplomatic ties fostered during President Chakwera’s visit to China where he attended Third China – Africa Trade Expo, and exemplifies how Malawi stands to benefit from these relations.
The ceremony was witnessed by Hon. Nancy Tembo, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Envoy of the Republic of Malawi to the People’s Republic of China, Ambassador Allan Chintedza and other notable representatives from the Malawi mission in China and the Sany Group.
