President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has hailed the Episcopal Conference of Malawi for always being vigilant on issues that affect Malawians.
President Chakwera was speaking at Mzuzu Stadium during the consecration of the Reverend Father Suzgo Yohane Nyirenda as the Auxiliary Bishop of Mzuzu Diocese.
The Malawi leader said, as the mouth piece of God, the Roman Catholic has always stood on the truth even in the face of those in power.
He said:”I particularly want to thank the leadership of the Church under the captaincy of the Most Reverend George Desmond Tambala for always speaking what is true and what is helpful, even to those in power, because you know that you have been sent by God to speak on his behalf”
President Chakwera then called upon all Malawians to take stock and reflect on their lives if they are fulfilling their God-given purpose on the earth.
“We are here [on the earth] on assignment from God and we must each ask ourselves whether or not we are fulfilling our mission,” said President Chakwera.
Bishop Yohane Nyirenda was appointed by Pope Francis in May this year.
Also present at the function was the State Vice President Saulos Chilima among several dignitaries.
