The raising and rehabilitation of the dam has seen the storage capacity increasing from 5 million cubic meters to 25 million cubit metres.
The project has been jointly funded by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Malawi Government through the Lilongwe Water Supply Project to the tune of EUR 27 million.
Further, it is estimated that after the completion of Water Works 3, it will produce 175 000 cubic metres per day from the current 125 000 cubic metres per day which is an additional 50 000 cubic metres per day.
This project is a milestone and is seen as a bedrock of one of the Malawi2063 strategic pillars which is attaining clean and sustainable water for households.
