President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera is set to host Invest in Malawi Business Conference 2023 in New York, United States of America, Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday.
A statement from Foreign Affairs Ministry explains that during the Invest in Malawi Business Conference scheduled for Tuesday 19th September 2024, President Chakwera who will be in United States of America attending the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), will take the opportunity to call for international support towards Malawi’s effort to build economic resilience against future exogenous shocks and keep Malawi on track to become a middle income economy by the year 2030.
The ministry explained that President Chakwera will address the United Nations General Assembly on 21st September 2023 to deliver the Malawi national statement.
Further to that, adds the statement, the Malawi leader will address United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals Summit meeting and the Millennium Challenge Compact Meeting on 18th September 2023, among other activities.
“Additionally, the Malawi leader will hold bilateral meetings with some other heads of state and government, heads of international organizations and business leaders, all geared towards mobilizing resources for Malawi’s post Cyclone reconstruction and recovery as well as private investment,” reads the statement.
The Malawi leader leaves the country on Friday 15th September 2023 for US to attend the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
According to the statement, Chakwera will depart Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) at 16 : 45 hrs and that details of his return home will be announced in due course.
