Chinese President Xi Jinping has hailed the administration of President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera for it’s unwavering support of the One – China policy.

The Chinese leader made the remarks on Thursday 24th August 2023 when he met President Chakwera on the sidelines of the 15th BRICS Plus Outreach Summit currently taking place in South Africa.

The One – China policy is a key cornerstone of Sino – US relations.

It is the diplomatic acknowledgement of China’s position that there is only one Chinese government.

According to Chakwera, the discussion has cemented the two country’s bilateral partnership to spur rapid infrastructural development and macroeconomic stability.

“I stated to President Xi, Malawi’s deep gratitude for the support his government and the people of China continue to render in areas such as education, telecommunications, infrastructure and during Cyclone Freddy devastation,” said the president.

“China will support our efforts to build resilience against climate shocks and achieve our developmental aspirations.”
